Quad News Kymco MXU 400 The Huckstepp Adventure Part 3. Rick Huckstepp continues to put the MXU 400 through its paces
Kymco Australia
Rick Huckstepp is a former fishing guide in the Northern
Territory and now works as a freelance photo journalist working for the
On the Road Magazine as well as many fishing Magazines.
Currently, Rick Huckstepp is chasing adventures travelling around
Australia covering the vast country! On this escapade Rick Huckstepp
has entrusted a Kymco MXU 400 to make these adventures come to life.
Travelling in a camper trailer with the MXU 400 on board, Rick has
pushed the MXU to new heights and will continue to run the MXU 400
through its paces.
Here is the third log of Rick Huckstepp’s adventures…
You know what it’s like; finish one trip and with a departure date
for the next venture seemingly too far away you sit around and fine tune
the gear you are taking on the next. To quote a popular saying; ‘It’s a
long time between drinks!’
I had just finished the restocking of the Huckfish bush trailer and
servicing the MXU 400 when I got wind that a friend had access to a
Moto-Cross track near the Brisbane River.
A quick telephone and I had booked the Kymco onto the mounds of the
MX Track. Away we went. Now when it comes to leaping over mounds getting
maximum air, I prefer to pick up the camera so friend, James Devine
donned the racing leathers and hard hat and hit the track.
Now if there was any test to gauge the sturdiness and performance of a
machine it was what we undertook that morning. You’ve got to give it to
these young lads with methanol coursing through their veins; they have
no fear!
This track was built with solo motorcycles in mind so the turns were
tight, steeply cambered and the mounds, acute. And there were plenty of
them. The Kymco took them all in its stride.. Performance rating;
impeccable!
Now that’s out of the system; Innamincka next on the travel itinerary.
